June 2013
On January 16, 2012, the redesigned $2 Powerball® game was launched. This game offers many appealing new features to players, including better overall odds and jackpots that grow bigger, faster. The starting jackpot doubled from $20 million to $40 million. The second prize for matching all five numbers, without the Powerball, increased from $200,000 to $1 million.
What does all of this mean for Arizona? In the short time since $2 Powerball launched, Arizona has had:
• More than 2.9 million Powerball prize winners,
• More than 12,500 - $100 winners,
• More than 135 - $10,000 winners,
• A total of 24 - $1 million winners, and
• A winner from Fountain Hills who shared half of a $587 million world record-breaking
jackpot.
Speaking of million dollar winners, Arizona had three for the month of May alone. Krista Crawley from Phoenix waited to speak to a financial advisor to get “all her ducks in a row” before claiming the prize. Another was a 15-member office pool, who called themselves “The Safford Fortunate 15” and divided the million up amongst the group.
The Arizona Lottery is thrilled that we have had such much success in our state, both for our players and our citizens. Proceeds from all Arizona Lottery ticket sales go to programs and organizations in the areas of education, economic & business development, the environment, and health & public welfare.
